Most research studies use a single method, but mixed methods has emerged as a research design drawing on the strength of both approaches and providing a more complete picture. Mixed methods lets the researcher integrate both method types to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the research. In this workshop, Dr. Pittet provided an overview of mixed methods research including its definition, rationales for using it, underlying philosophical assumptions and basic designs. We discussed how to develop a research question(s), select an appropriate design considering methodology components of timing, integration, and priority, and inference techniques.
