International scholars and employees who may eventually want to apply for permanent residency in the US could benefit from taking steps to compile their immigration portfolio early in their career. An immigration portfolio is an organized system of documents that show a person's ability to meet the criteria necessary to obtain permanent residence in the U.S. based on employment and educational backgrounds. Compiling an immigration portfolio before it’s needed allows for time and space to gather the best documentation without being rushed. It also helps people to identify opportunities that could augment their portfolio, such as conference session reviewing and professional memberships.

This session is geared toward nonimmigrant visa holders in the U.S. We reviewed the various criteria necessary to obtain permanent residence through several employment-based categories. The viewer will learn how to assess their career goals against the green card criteria to better understand how to enhance their immigration portfolio with a desire to obtain permanent residence as early as possible in their career, thus providing stability and ultimate flexibility in their lives.

During a time of uncertain federal funding, it is essential for faculty to diversify their research portfolios. This session is designed to equip HS researchers with the skills to leverage AI, particularly tools like ChatGPT and Google Gemini, to explore new avenues for obtaining non-federal funding, generate ideas for commercialization, and produce new collaborations that strengthen their financial health. We also unveiled a new tool designed to streamline the prompt generation process, making it easier than ever for faculty to explore innovative funding opportunities with the use of AI.

Goals:

  • Bridge the Gap Between Research and Entrepreneurship:
  • Learn how to effectively use AI prompts to translate both mechanistic and application-based research data into viable commercialization ideas, and explore methodologies for critically assessing the outputs generated by AI, ensuring that translation from research to market is both practical and innovative.
  • Identify Innovative Collaborations and Non-Federal Funding Opportunities:
  • Discover how the right AI prompts will generate hypotheses that can lead to targeted research collaborations as well as innovative usage of Pitt’s Core facilities.
  • Learn how AI can help identify non-federal funding sources and streamline the search process by generating not just a list of non-federal grants, foundation grants, and sponsorships but also a list of hypotheses that fit their missions.
  • Learn about a new tool designed to help you utilize AI more easily, and the support systems at Pitt to help you succeed in these endeavors including navigating the commercialization journey, developing collaborations, and applying for non-federal funding.
